Last year, the Beltronics V955 became kind of a necessary "evil" for me. You see, I live in Orange County, California, and I work in outside sales. The powers that be have me running all over the place to my appointments. It is not unusual for me to drive 250 miles in a day!

Unfortunately, with so many appointments to keep, and so little time, I tend to exceed the speed limit. Last year I got 2 speeding tickets. The irony of the situation is that in order to keep my company car, I can't get another moving violation.

So, it was actually my boss who suggested getting the V955radar detector. He pointed me in the direction of Amazon.com, where I got about 50 bucks off list and free shipping. It was definitely the best time tobuy the V955!

Let me just say right off the bat, that the V955 is head and shoulders above any radar detector I have ever owned. my last one was an old Cobra model, that was basically useless. TONS of false alarms and horrible range.

It is amazing how this model picks up the cops from so far away. In Orange County, the state troopers are set up with radar all over the place.

Because of their widespread presence, the V955 has saved my butt a bunch! I feel comfortable at higher speeds now, too. You have to be careful among the hills, and Southern California has plenty of them.

The V955 does send off false alerts, however not nearly as many as my junky Cobra. Also, after awhile you can tell the difference between a false alert, and real police radar.

On a practical note, the Vector v955 is actually quite heavy. In fact, it is as heavy as my outdated Cobra. Nevertheless, it is easy to mount on the dashboard. The sound settings were fine, as were the brightness setting. I did not even have to adjust them!

One cool features is that the V955 lets me know the type of radar it is detecting, and audibly "announces" it. That way, I am not distacted, and I can concentrate on the road.

Common sense should probably tell you that it is not a good idea to leave the V955out in the hot sun. I left it out one time, and that was enough to almost ruin the umit! Hopefully, I have learned my lesson.

My boss has been so impressed with my detector that he has ordered a unit for EVERY company car! And, he even reimbursed me for mine!
